Description:

The project entailed over 200,000 SF of multi-phased renovations, demolition, and new construction at the 250-acre, 645-room AAA Five Diamond luxury resort near Camelback Mountain. The largest project undertaken at the resort since the initial construction in 1988 necessitated close coordination during all phases as The Phoenician continued hosting guests and events during construction. Speed was of the essence to lessen the impact to the overall guest experience. Kitchell provided multiple GMP’s and performed many of the phases concurrently, primarily over a 9-month period, to ensure a timely completion.

The renovation scope included the main lobby, a spacious entrance leading to personalized welcome desks and a relocated concierge service area. Shops and cafes, including the Thirsty Camel bar, have been remodeled to take advantage of the floor-to-ceiling windows and new seating. The main restaurant was also renovated to include a new exhibition kitchen and two private dining areas. The updated architectural features include barn doors, a wine shelf and Bomanite flooring.

The large cast-in-place pool bar was removed and replaced to create additional deck space with more VIP seating and new private cabanas. A new waterslide and an adult-only hot tub also now compliment the signature Mother of Pearl pool. The Centre for Well-Being Spa was demolished and replaced by the new Phoenician Spa, a three-story facility that features a rooftop pool, 24 treatment rooms, a couple’s VIP suite, a dry bar, full-service nail salon, and a fitness center with a personal training gym. Finally, the Athletic Club was expanded to include a brand new fitness center, 10 new tennis courts, basketball court, and updated golf cart parking.
